Italy has also confirmed its growing export of fruits and vegetables, especially in the production and export of kiwifruit, at the Asian international fruit and vegetable show. According to CSO data, in 2016, the export volume of kiwifruit in Italy reached 46,000 tons, of which 11,000 tons were sold to China, while China was also the largest importer of Italian kiwi fruit in Asia region. Other major import areas include Saudi Arabia's 7,500 tons, China Taiwan 6,500 tons and the united Arab emirates 6,500 tons. In the first five months of 2017, Italian kiwi exports to Asia exceed 18,000 tons, with China accounting for 2,000 tons, Saudi Arabia 3,000 tons, India 2,700 tons and the united Arab emirates about 2,200 tons.
In addition to kiwi fruit, the fruit that is sold to Asia mainly includes fresh grapes, plums and oranges. Fresh grapes are doing well, with a total export volume of about 9,500 tons, mainly to the united Arab emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Plums are Italy's third biggest export to Asia, with 6,800 tonnes sold in the uae, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Citrus, which has just won access to the Chinese market and is unable to forecast sales, has shown strong growth.
